Teaching Artists

We're taking our programming to a new level at Nook and we're looking for team members with a background in Theatre or Theatre/Music Education. If you love working with children and you've got a talent for entertaining a crowd of all ages, we have PLENTY of opportunity for you.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use your talents (for music, acting, and/or dancing) to lead and engage children and their caregivers in classes that combine storytelling, movement, music, arts and crafts.

  • Partner with Nook’s Early Childhood Development Specialist to develop and implement early learning curriculum.

  • Take the show on the road. Lead classes at Nook’s partner locations.

YOU:

  • Have or are working on a degree in Theatre, Theatre/Music Education, or Early Elementary Education OR have experience working in theatre/a performance setting or teaching theatre education to young children

  • Love entertaining groups and enjoy working with children. Comfortable being silly in front of both children and adults. You can talk to anyone about anything.

  • Are a team player who loves to get creative and contribute new ideas

Operations Manager

We are looking for an Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of Nook’s locations and partnerships. Nook is in an exciting period of growth, and this is a great opportunity for someone to be a part of developing a brand.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the daily operations and management of our two locations in Virginia, including our headquarters in Ballston Quarter. Ensure that each space functions in a way that delivers on Nook’s brand promise.

  • Develop and manage our team of hosts to ensure that we are delivering an exceptional experience for all of Nook’s guests, with a focus on creating memorable moments. Manage customer concerns. Identify and create opportunities for customer engagement.

  • Oversee the financial success of each location. Ensure the growth and success of onsite revenue streams, including birthday parties and memberships. Manage accounting reports, payroll, and inventory.

  • Work with Nook’s team of instructors to create class schedules and prepare materials for classes and workshops.

  • Manage logistics of special events onsite and at partner locations.

YOU:

  • Have at least 2 years experience in a management role, preferably in a retail or customer-facing setting. Start-up experience a plus.

  • Are a logistics-oriented, hyper-organized, and efficiency-focused problem-solver.

  • Are a team player, collaborator, and an excellent communicator.

  • Understand the importance of a brand and its mission. Ready to live and breathe the brand.

Social Media Intern

We’re looking for a social media intern to join our team as we launch several new and exciting initiatives at Nook! The Social Media Intern will help to manage day-to-day drafting and deployment of content across channels (including but not limited to: Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter).

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who excels in a test-and-learn environment and is interested in gaining experience with a start-up brand during an exciting growth period.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in development of strategically positioned social content, with a focus on brand engagement and discovery.

  • Take ownership of daily content strategy, output, and insights across social channels.

  • Pitch and execute content ideas and initiatives

  • Manage daily social media calendar

  • Own Social Media admin tasks (weekly reporting, project updates)

Onsite Host

WHO YOU ARE…

A self-directed team player with a knack for hosting large groups and helping guests feel welcome and comfortable.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The onsite host is primarily responsible for creating a remarkable experience and providing the highest level of service for our guests. This involves:Understanding Nook’s brand and core mission.

  • Greeting and assisting guests with check-in upon arrival; providing tours to new guests.

  • Anticipating and responding to any questions or requests from guests onsite or over the phone: This requires the host to know the breadth of Nook’s services and stay up-to-date on our calendar of special events and birthdays.

  • Proactively identifying appropriate opportunities to interact with guests: inquiring about their experience, offering help when needed, providing information about features in the space (e.g. toys, books, products).

  • Monitoring all guest areas (play area, party and class rooms, restrooms) to ensure that each area is clean, well-stocked, and free of safety hazards, and maintains Nook’s visual standards.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience in customer service

  • Agility with online apps

  • Exceptional organizational skills

  • Ability to stay calm under pressure

  • Ability to solve problems independently under pressure

  • Previous experience with young children and families is a plus

  • Previous experience managing or working in a retail space or similar is a plus

  • Part-time availability: 15-30 hours/week on weekdays and/or weekends between the hours of 8am and 7pm
