Opening Check list

  • Unlock entrance door (and panic bar).

  • Turn on lights.

  • Adjust temperature settings if necessary.

  • Prep the iPad for the day’s transactions:

  • Turn on Open Play Walk-In Sign-In sheet on customer iPad

  • Fill water pitchers.

  • Brew coffee.

  • Prep first tray of animal crackers.

  • Check bathrooms for toilet paper, paper towels, etc.

  • Check art tables for paper, markers, Model Magic.

  • Check phone for messages.

  • Place any necessary signage on sandwich boards and/or door. (Reservations only. Private Party, etc.)

  • Aprons on and a smile!


on-shift checklist

ENTRANCE/RECEPTION/SNACK AREA/CUBBIES/RETAIL WINDOW

  • Keep front desk as clutter-free and tidy as possible. It is the customer’s first impression of Nook.

  • Make sure front door is not blocked by strollers. For fire safety reasons, we cannot park strollers anywhere inside our space.

  • Clear floor by storage cubbies of any items that people can trip on (bags, car seats, toys, books, shoes, etc.). Direct overflow items to back hallway/cubbies under benches. Kindly notify the owners where their items are being relocated to.

  • Snack Area/Parents Lounge: Clear snack area of all empty/abandoned cups. Restock/refill items we’re running low on. Check trash bin for overflow. When necessary, remind customers about no outside food/no nuts policy.

  • Monitor retail area: return moved/missing items. Redirect children playing in retail area to another part of the play space.

PLAY AREA

  • Serve animal crackers every hour.

  • Return abandoned toys to their respective nooks.

  • Return missing books to library/shelves.

  • Check art tables for paper, art supplies, etc.

  • Check in with customers to see how they’re doing and if there’s anything we can do for them.

  • Make sure there are no kids climbing on top of the play structure.

  • Monitor the play area to make sure there are NO KIDS OVER 5 (exception is made for private birthday parties) and no kids playing rough (especially around the smaller children. How to communicate this:

    • No kids over 5 rule: “Nook is designed for children 0 to 5. Your child is welcome to come; however, we ask that priority in the play space and with the toys be given to younger children.

    • No kids playing rough. “We’re concerned about the safety of the smaller children in the space. Can we help your son/daughter find another activity?”

BATHROOMS

  • Please check the bathrooms once every hour.

  • Check for paper products.

  • Check that the trash bin isn’t overflowing.

  • Wipe down sinks/mirrors when necessary.


CLOSING CHECKLIST

  • Tidy play area:

    • Return toys to respective nooks

    • Wipe down art tables (use magic erasers if necessary)

  • Organize the bookshelves

  • Vacuum.

  • Keep iPad in holder charging for next day.

  • Charge iPad.

  • Charge Sonos.

  • Empty trash cans (main play area, snack area, bathrooms, and storage closet); take trash to dumpster.

  • Empty water pitchers.

  • Clean out coffee carafes.

  • Place phone in charger.

  • Adjust thermostat as necessary.

  • Turn off lights.

  • Lock front door.
